Flowerstone Porphyry rocks
We are still producing sea stars but have now added a jewelry line. Our winter trips to Arizona have allowed us to take classes in lapidary and silversmithing and we are excited to create jewelry using mostly local beach rocks. We also have a love of turquoise and have created many unique cabochons to be designed into jewelry.
These Flowerstone Porphyry rocks are gathered from our local beaches on the East shores of Vancouver Island
The rocks on our local beaches are a result of the glaciers which swept over Vancouver Island centuries ago. The tidal wave action constantly stirs the beaches revealing interesting & distinctive rocks including quartz, jasper and agates.
This Porphyry stone shows up in many variations and carry local names such as flowerstone, snowflake or Chinese writing. Dallasite is another local rock named after Dallas Road, Victoria where it was first noticed and Rhodonite which can be pink with variations of grey, yellow and brown. It has a weathered appearance of lump of coal but a tap with a rock hammer reveals the color within.
Some of our jewelry incorporates these fascinating volcanic stones. Each one has been collected from our beaches then hand cut, ground & polished to make one of a kind jewelry pieces.
